Veterans Services
Many military veterans have served their country honorably but at a cost to their own mental health. While some military members experience combat-related trauma, most experience family, occupational, and social distress unrelated to combat service.
What services do you offer to military veterans?
We provide individual, couples, and family counseling services with the understanding that the veteran experience may be different from the civilian population. We also specialize in aiding veterans transitioning from military service to civilian employment.
How do you help military members with trauma?
We use various trauma-informed practices; however, we have found that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is particularly helpful for reprocessing traumatic experiences.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. It encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
I am not a military veteran; will EMDR help me also?
EMDR is a therapy used to help various populations, not just military members.
